Ed Sheeran’s first demo recorded when he was 13 set for auction

A demo of songs recorded by Ed Sheeran and sold by his mother when he was a teenager is being auctioned.

The current seller bought the recordings in 2005 in Framlingham, Suffolk, where the 29-year-old musician grew up.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, was keen to support musicians from the area.

The collection of love songs, called Spinning Man, was Sheeran‘s first demo and was recorded when he was 13.

It will be sold alongside a copy of the Shape Of You singer’s second CD, The Orange Room, which was self-released by the singer-songwriter in 2005.

Both CDs will be sold together and are expected to fetch £20,000.

Another copy of Spinning Man recently fetched £50,000 at Omega Auctions.

The auctioneer said it was “fascinating” to see the dedication of Sheeran’s parents – John and Imogen – in supporting their son’s career.

Auctioneer Paul Fairweather said: “The result in September garnered worldwide press attention – so it’s not totally unexpected to see another CD come out of the woodwork.

“However, we’re very happy to present this rare CD alongside one that has certainly never been sold before.

“Ed’s parents played a large part in his career and it’s fascinating to see that that dedication extended to selling individual copies of their teenage son’s CD.”

The CD is going under the hammer at Omega Auctions in an online sale on 24 November.

It comes after one of Sheeran’s paintings recently raised £40,000 at a charity auction to redevelop a playground for children with special educational needs and disabilities.
