A scooter rider has died following a collision with an ambulance in a village near Barnsley in South Yorkshire.
South Yorkshire Police said it was called at about 10.25pm on Friday by both a member of the public and Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
The ambulance was responding to an emergency call when it collided with the scooter on the A628 Barnsley Road in Hoylandswaine, close to the junction near the Lord Nelson pub.
The rider, a man in his 30s, died of his injuries after being taken to hospital, police said.
“The driver of the ambulance is assisting officers with enquiries,” the force added.
“We request that the privacy of the victim’s family is respected at this difficult time.”
Officers would like to speak to anyone who was on Barnsley Road at the time and who “may have seen the collision” or recorded it on a dashcam.
“We are also appealing to any premises that has CCTV cameras which cover the junction to check their footage and see if those cameras caught the collision,” South Yorkshire Police added.
People are urged to call 101, quoting incident number 1232 of 28 July 2023.
