Actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been charged with drink-driving after a car crash in Malibu, California, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
The Dracula star was arrested on Sunday afternoon, after officers were called to a minor collision, reportedly involving one vehicle.
The 43-year-old was taken to a local police station and released the next day. He has been ordered to appear in court in February next year.
Meyers’ blood alcohol level was not released by police, and no injuries were reported from the collision.
The Irish actor is best known for his roles in films including Bend It Like Beckham and Mission: Impossible III, and BBC TV drama The Tudors in which he played King Henry VIII.
Meyers has previously battled alcohol issues which were well documented.
In 2018, he was reportedly detained by police at LAX airport after getting into a verbal altercation with his wife, actress Mara Lane, and using an e-cigarette on an American Airlines flight.
The same year, he opened up about his battle with alcohol with US chat show host Larry King, saying he does not “suffer from alcoholism, I suffer from an allergy to alcohol”.
Meyers married Lane in 2016 and they have a three-year-old son, Wolf.
The day after the actor’s release from police custody, Lane shared several Instagram videos showing a laughing Meyers playing with Wolf in a swimming pool.
In one post she praised Meyers for helping to teach their son to swim over the summer, and in the second she said she wanted to share “happy highlights”.

Lane wrote: “I feel since so many of our lowlights seem to find their way on the web, fair to share some happy moments so when Wolf is older, he can search/find/see/remember the happies.”
